How To Stop Winter Acne

Posted On: - 2014-01-10 17:00:53

Some may think that the cold temperatures can stop acne from starting. But that’s not the case.

The combination of the chilly outdoors and heated indoors can jumpstart sebum which cause pimples.

“Every season brings new skin care challenges and that includes people who are prone to acne,” said the spokesperson from Skin Care Heaven, an e-commerce skin care store and skin research center based in San Diego.

Skin Care Heaven offered some of their tips to help keep acne under control during the winter months.

Finding A Perfect Facial Cleanser:

While a cleanser with salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide may be good in the spring and summer, those same ingredients could irritate skin in the winter. The best tip is to find a soap-free cleanser which can help hydrate the skin.

Don’t Forget To Moisturizer:

The right moisturizer will not increase the chance of breakouts. Find an oil-free product which is also noncomedogenic so it doesn’t clog pores. Consider moisturizers with dimethicone or glycerin hydrate to help calm acne prone skin.

Topical Acne Treatments:

If that topical treatment is drying out skin, or find that skin is beginning to flake too much, consider scaling back to using the topical every other day. Find the right balance.

“These tips will help calm irritated and acne prone skin. And another thing to keep in mind is to avoid keeping your indoor temperatures either in the car or in your home too warm,” said the spokesperson. “Just like the seasons change, our skin care routine needs to change with it.”
