Peptides An Important Anti-Aging Ingredient

Posted for Anti Aging On January 25, 2010

Peptides are one of the most powerful anti-aging ingredients that provides relief from a variety of aging signs. Scientific research and trials have established its effectiveness to stimulate collagen production within the skin cells and thus prevent aging signs like wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. It is used extensively in skin care products to help women get a wrinkle-free and younger looking complexion.

How do Peptides work on the Skin?
Peptides are actually small chain amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins, an essential component of skin cells. Proteins provide structure to cell membranes and act as messengers between the different layers of the skin. They are the natural components that are responsible for the youthful appearance of skin cells. In the absence of peptides, the skin cells breakdown and leads to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

Collagen Stimulation With Peptides
Collagen is the primary protein component that provides support and structure to the skin cells and keeps the skin smooth and supple. However, as we age, the skin cells start losing its collagen contents thus leading to the development of wrinkles, age spots and deteriorating skin quality. Peptides in skin care products help to stimulate the production of collagen within the skin cells and prevents any further breakdown of the same. Peptides also increase the synthesis of glycosaminoglycan and accelerate the formation of new capillaries.

Types of Peptides

Peptides are extensively used in anti aging skin care products. Here are some of their most popular forms:

This is perhaps the most effective of all peptides. It significantly reduces the depth of wrinkles and fine lines and leaves the skin soft and smooth.

Copper Peptides
Copper peptides have a copper molecule attached to them. Copper is very effective in healing damaged skin and accelerating the production of collagen within the skin cells. It is especially useful for skin that has undergone skin procedures like microdermabrasion or laser resurfacing.

These peptides can block the signals transmitted from the facial nerve muscles and thus provides a Botox like result.

How To Read A Skin Care Products Label?

Posted for Skin Care On January 12, 2010

Skin care products generally have a product label or ingredients list printed on them. Though it may appear only on the back of the box or packaging, it is one of the most important things that you should consider while buying a product.

Ingredients list can contain a long and extensive list of complex names that might not be familiar to you. That’s why you usually have no clue what you are applying on your skin. However, in order to make sure that you buy the perfect products for your skin, it is important to make sure that you use ones that contain ingredients that help with your skin condition.

Why should you learn to read the Ingredients List?
It is very important to learn how to read the Ingredients List of a skin care product. When you know what ingredients are contained in a product, then you can avoid using the products that contain allergenic and irritating ingredients. Moreover, you will also be able to know if a product really delivers what it promises and if you can find a better alternative.

There are several skin care products that claim to contain powerful ingredients like antioxidants and alpha-hydroxy acids and priced very expensively. However, when you look at the product label, you can see that these “special” ingredients are present in low and almost negligible concentrations and therefore serve no purpose.

Here are some common things that you should note:

Name of Ingredients
Ingredients are listed using their scientific names and plant names using their Latin names. However, in order to make it easier and understandable, the English names of the products are also listed. For example Shea Butter is listed as Butyrospermum Parkii, Green Tea as Camellia Sinensis and so on.

Order of Ingredients
The ingredients are listed in the order of concentration.. Ingredients that are present in the highest amount is listed followed by others in decreasing order. So, you can know that the ingredients that are listed on the top is present in the maximum amount while those listed at the bottom are present in the least amount. The only exception to this rule is when the active ingredients of the list are listed separately or at the very top. This is because even though they may be present in low concentrations, they are what makes the formulation deliver results.

Some Exceptions:

Ingredients that are present in less that 1% concentration can be listed in any order.
Artificial colors, preservatives and fragrance additives can be listed in any order irrespective of their concentrations. Usually they are listed in the last.

So, next time you go to shop for skin care products, don’t forget to read through the products label!

Have Fabulous Skin At Any Age – Heres How!

Posted for Anti Aging On January 6, 2010

So many women are seeking a way to slow down their skin aging process or at least improve it somewhat. While scientific research and technological advancements have provided us with a variety of treatments such as Laser and Botox to improve aged skin, the best way to do it through skin care products.

With efficient skin care and good skin care products, you can preserve the quality of your skin and look fabulous at any age. Here are some tips:

Skin Care in the 20s
During your 20s, the skin cells regenerate rapidly and the complexion remains smooth and radiant. This is the period when the collagen and elastin fibers (that are responsible to keep the skin firm.) are produced optimally. Any signs of sun damage are yet to appear. Because of this, it is the best time to protect your skin against free radical damage and the UV rays of the sun. Make sure you slather on lots of sunscreen whenever you venture out in the sun.

Skin Care in the 30s
30s are the time women start noticing some difference in their skin. This is because when you reach your 30s, the cell regeneration process slows down and the skin starts looking dull. Even the collagen and elastin production slows down as a result of which you can see the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Therefore, start using anti aging skin care products that provide you with essential ingredients to stimulate collagen production and help diminish the signs of aging. Use Skin Care Heaven Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum, This is an anti-aging product that helps to firm the skin while enriching the skin with antioxidants. This product feels like you are applying silk to your skin. It gives your skin a radiant, youthful glow. This product also helps to reduce the size of pores.

Skin Care for 40s
In your 40s, your main concern is that of deep wrinkles and loss of elasticity and firmness. This is primarily a result of excessive and unprotected sun exposure and declining levels of collagen and elastin fibers in the skin cells. Also, the skin’s ability to retain moisture reduces. Therefore, make sure you use rich creamy moisturizing products along with anti aging skin care products like eye creams. Try Skin Care Heaven Eye Serum. It reduces the t appearance of fine lines and wrinkles along with dark circles and puffiness. This eye serum is enhanced with powerful antioxidants from green tea and hydrated with Hyaluronic Acid.

Keep Smilling, it improves your skin!
