I don’t know what it is about Jane Iredale, but this mineral makeup manufacturer has a special way of creating makeup.  Their vision crystallized into products that not only looks beautiful on the skin but is healthy, too.

As many know, the biggest tip in beauty is finding the right foundation. After all, it prepares the canvas for the other makeup to follow.

Among the impressive list of Jane Iredale Makeup inventory, we offer some sterling choices in foundations such as Liquid Minerals Foundation, Pure Pressed Base, and Amazing Base.  All these products have an array of shades to match any skin tone and phenomenal coverage capabilities.

Below is a brief description of each to help you make the right choice for your skin.

Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals Foundation

Known to even out skin tone and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, this foundation is packed with lysosomes, vegetable glycerin and aloe vera.  They are wonderful formulas that benefit the skin.

The bottle holds a liquid formula which contains beads.  Described as cutting-edge, Jane Iredale delivers active ingredients in these beads that are time-released and penetrate into the skin.

After an application, Jane Iredale users either apply Amazing Base or Pure Pressed Base for broad-spectrum sun shielding protection.

Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Base

Stored in a compact, this product is a powerhouse combination of a foundation, powder, concealer, and sunscreen. This makeup base, recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, has a sun protection factor of 20.  Its algae extract helps lock in moisture to keep skin looking youthful and protecting it from ultra violet rays.

For those with sensitive skin, Pure Pressed Base has no fragrances, oil, talc, parabens and fillers which make it a perfect choice.

Jane Iredale Amazing Base

This rich, loose mineral foundation offers UVA and UVB broad-spectrum sun protection providing the ultimate solar defense. Like the Pure Pressed Base, it’s also free from oil, talc, dyes and parabens.  Amazing Base is excellent for people with sensitive skin, including conditions such as eczema and roseacea.

It is also recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation.

Finding a foundation that offers coverage, skin care perks, and sun protection gives you another tool to keep that youthful and luminous glow.

Sunscreen Isn’t Just For Summer

Posted for Anti AgingBeautyEye Care & Eye Make UPMoisturizersOily SkinSkin CareSun Tanning On January 23, 2012

Sunscreen just isn’t for hot summer days.  It’s something that should be applied every single day of the year. Although it may be deceiving, about 80 percent of ultra violet rays still seep its way through overcast skies damaging skin and causing premature aging.

Anytime someone is outdoors they are at risk for sun damage.  And yes, that includes playing sports, gardening, or even just walking the dog.  Don’t forget that the reflection of snow and sand also boosts the exposure to UV rays.

In addition to premature aging, reports estimate that skin cancer is still a disease to contend with for both men and women. That’s why sunscreen is so important.

Skin Care Heaven, an e-commerce store in Carlsbad offers an array of quality solar defense inventory.

Here are some valuable tips into different ways of shielding your skin to keep it healthy and young looking.

SUNSCREEN 101

Sun protection can be found in organic and non-organic formulas. On the shelves they come in gels, sprays, lotions, creams, sticks, and powder forms. The most important one to buy is a product that offers a broad spectrum which simply means it protects the user from UVA and UVB rays.

Those who love using organic products will more than likely find the following ingredients:

  • Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate
  • Ethylhexyl Salicylate
  • Homosalate
  • Octocrylene
  • Titanium Dioxide 2.0%

For the most part, organic sunscreens are paraben and fragrance free.  But check the labels to make sure.  Because UVA and UVB sunscreen offer the best protection out there, double check that the vegetarian ingredients in the bottle offer it, as well.

Non-organic sunscreen manufacturers not only offer sun protection but their ingredients may also include anti-aging and skin recovery ingredients like Dermalogica Age Smart Dynamic Skin Recovery does. And these days, sunscreens are non-greasy, absorb quickly and are featherweight. Even those with acne prone skin can find the perfect product that meet their skin care needs.

Important ingredients to look for in these products are:

  • Ecamsule
  • Avobenzone
  • Oxybenzone
  • Sulisobenzone
  • Titanium dioxide
  • Zinc oxide

Last but not least, tinted moisturizers like Revision Skin Care have a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 45. Avid users of tinted moisturizers love the light, natural coverage and oftentimes use it instead of a heavier foundation.

Healthcare professionals recommend using a sunscreen with a SPF of 30 or higher and to consider a waterproof one, too.

APPLICATION TIPS

The best time to apply sunscreen is 15 to 30 minutes before going outside.  And please don’t be stingy with it. The rule of thumb is a “shot-size” glass serving or more for an adult body.  Research has shown that not enough people use sunscreen and remain unprotected.

Don’t let the “long-lasting” words on the bottle think sunscreen is only applied once a day.  A solar defense needs to be reapplied every two to three hours when outdoors.  And if the product is not waterproof, it must be reapplied after sweating or following a swim.

The most common places people forget to apply sunscreen are:

  • Ears
  • Back of legs
  • Feet
  • Top of hands
  • Scalp (if there is a receding hairline or one wears a buzz cut)

While sunscreen is one surefire way to keep skin looking youthful and healthy, add in some other skin saving tools like a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and retreat to shady areas whenever possible.

The Shelf Life of Skin Care Products

Posted for AcneAnti AgingBeautyEye Care & Eye Make UPLip CareMoisturizersOily SkinSkin CareSkin Cleansers & Toners On January 23, 2012

Skin care products don’t have an expiration date. So, this makes things a bit tricky in figuring out when to toss out skin care products before they go bad.

As chief officer of an online skin care product store, a producer of my own product line, and operation of a new day spa, it’s important to understand the potency of a product and when it’s time to pitch it. Our health always comes first.

To keep track, some suggest writing a date on the packaging but so many of us forget to recheck it. Instead, a better way is to use your computer or cell phone calendar with “alarm” reminders for a 3, 6, 9 and 12 month checkup to see if it’s product trashcan time.

While many think their products may last up to two years that really may not be the case on all types of skin care and beauty products.

For example, if a cream or lotion product has turned thin or lumpy, chuck it. Other signs to watch out for are:

  • Changes in smell
  • Has a different feeling on the skin when applied
  • Turned darker in color
  • Product divided itself into visible layers

And anti aging products which contain antioxidants, retinol, and vitamins are always at a higher risk for a sooner expiration date. So be sure lids are replaced tightly.

To keep bacterial contamination from happening, keep your fingers out of those containers. When bacteria gets in there, the product is ruined and there’s no turning back. A perfectly new skin care product can go bad instantly once bacteria invades it.

Other helpful tips are:

  • Store your products in a cool place such as a cabinet.
  • If your new product has a broken seal return it immediately.
  • Keep your products away from the sunlight.
  • Always wash your hands before using skin care products.
  • If an infection or rash is brought on by a product throw it out.
  • Do not add water to a formula.

Because there are no regulations and expiration dates, it’s really up to you to figure out when it’s time to part with your products. At first, it may feel like you are throwing away money, but in the end, you are saving your body from the threat of bacterial contamination. And no one wants to risk that.

Remember, these products only last so long once that lid is officially unscrewed.

Although moisturizers, serums, and creams tend to last 6 months to a year, some product ingredients can speed up the expiration date such as:

  • Plant Extracts: known for its wonderful skin care properties, plant extracts have a shorter shelf life.
  • Preservative-Free Ingredients: while many enjoy the thought of not putting preservatives on their bodies, do keep an eye out for changes since preservatives help fight off bacteria.
  • Water: if this is the first or second item on the list of ingredients it has more of a chance to promote bacteria.
  • Wax: this ingredient may also offer a shorter expiration date especially if it has little water in its formula.

It’s important to point out that if you stick with your skin care routine and are mindful of bacterial contamination, chances are you’ll use up your product before it expires.

Tips To Moisturize During The Winter Months

Posted for Anti AgingBeautyMoisturizersSkin Care On December 5, 2011

Here are some tips to get through the frosty season.

Although a hot bath or shower may seem like the perfect thing to do to warm up, it actually is a bad choice. Hot water can remove skin moisture especially during the wintertime. And every drop of moisture counts. So, the best temperature to keep it at is warm.

After a bath or shower, pat skin gently but leave it a bit damp for a body moisturizer application. Now remember, a body moisturizer is to never be used on the face or neck because it will be too harsh.

Body moisturizers can be found in:

- Butters
- Creams
- Lotions
- Oils
- Ointments

A great product on the market with wonderful hydrating and nourishing properties is Pure Fiji. Their sublime fragrances range from coconut, pineapple, and more. Their formulas come in butters and lotions. For the wintertime, though, it’s a good idea to go with body butters.

When applying a moisturizer over the whole body, don’t forget to include the feet and toes. Those spots are in need of hydration, too.

Great ingredients in body moisturizers may include:

- Aloe Vera
- Cocoa Butter
- Coconut Oil
- Jojoba oil
- Murumuru Butter
- Nut Extracts
- Shea Butter

Now, if extra dryness is noticed, it may be a good idea to exfoliate about once a week in between those moisturizing treatments. Again, Pure Fiji has a wonderful Coconut Sugar Rub.

Make certain the scrub chosen exfoliates gently. Look for essential oils and gentle extracts to nourish the skin. Exfoliating will get the skin prepared for better moisturizer penetration.

For the face, look for a product that not only hydrates but also offers antioxidant benefits to fight free radicals. Revaleskin Intense Recovery Treatment falls under this category because it does moisturize severely dry skin while offering it a boost of nourishment from its Coffee Berry ingredient.

Find peptide products that promote the stop of trans-epidermal water loss otherwise known as TEWL.

Other great facial formulas are:

- Ceramides
- Liposomes
- Pro-Niacin
- Sodium hyalurnate
Aside from adding moisture back into the skin, also look for benefits such as lessening fine lines and wrinkles, reducing redness, and even out skin tone. A moisturizer that can do more than one thing is definitely a keeper.

Although this last tip is not a moisturizer it is well worth the mention. Find a hydrating facial mist to quench skin thirst any time of the day. Generally, these bottles are small and can fit easily into a handbag. Top formulas are myrrh, chamomile, olive leaf extract and grape seed extract.

With these wintertime tips, skin will have a host of possibilities for supple and soft skin even through chilliest of times.

7 Tips to More Beautiful Skin

Posted for Anti AgingMoisturizersSkin Care On August 18, 2011

Life is so hectic. Taking time out of the day to follow a skincare routine may sometimes feel as if it’s out of reach for all of us. But following these simple seven steps will offer women at any age beautiful skin for many, many years.

Although a day spa visit may frequently pop up on your calendar, it’s still super critical to follow these tips – with them, they’ll offer excellent results.

Step 1: Wear Sunscreen

Let wearing daily sunscreen, even on overcast days, become second nature to you. The sunscreen of today isn’t thick and greasy like years ago. Now, advanced sunscreen technology is featherweight and silky. An example of this is a product from La Roche Posay. An oil-free formula, La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid, goes on sheer. Packed with antioxidants, it’s also water resistant.

Moisturizers, including tinted moisturizers, may also have a SPF shield from the sun. Shoppers can find this in products such as Intellishade SPF 45 Matte Tinted Moisturizer by Revision Skincare.

Not using a solar defense leads to premature skin aging. Signs of wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, and uneven skin tone will creep up sooner than later. Using sunscreen on a regular basis will slow down the skin aging process.

The sun is most powerful between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If possible, try to retreat indoors throughout this timeframe to give your skin a break.

And don’t forget to double check that the sunscreen you’re lathering on hasn’t expired. If it has, it won’t offer the ultimate skin protection you need.

And above all, purchase a broad spectrum sunscreen. Reapply it every few hours, and more so, if you’ve been swimming or perspiring.

Step 2: Treat Skin with Care

Facial skin is delicate. Here are some tips to be mindful of, such as:

• Limit your time in hot water to avoid dehydration
• Don’t tug or pull on your skin (especially around your eyes) when cleaning or removing makeup.
• Pat skin dry and leave skin slightly damp for rehydration

And when it comes to cleansing, pick a non-soap cleanser to avoid facial dryness.

Step 3: Toss out the cigarettes

Smoking can accelerate skin damage. It slows down blood flow in the skin, steals oxygen from it, and robs it from its nutrients. Over time, smoking creates dull skin and deep wrinkles begin to set around the mouth and eyes.

Step 4: Alcohol Intake

Although it may be nice to kick up your heels with a glass of wine after a day of hard work, keep track of what’s consumed. Alcohol dehydrates the skin and gives it a rough texture. So if a young looking appearance is your goal, reduce the alcohol intake.

Step 5: Moisturize

Mature skin becomes dry and really needs a moisturizer to pump up fine lines. A good moisturizer adds water back into the skin. Thumbing through a moisturizer inventory, you’re bound to find an array of them with antioxidant features and anti-aging rich properties. In addition to a hydrating boost, the nuances to these different formulas are just endless.

Kinerase products offer a nice line of moisturizers. During the day, users reach for Kinerase Ultimate Day Moisturizer, while in the evening, they apply Kinerase Ultimate Night Moisturizer. Both improve skin texture and offer excellent treatment for hydration.

And please don’t limit a moisturizer just to your face. From head to toe, the whole body needs attention, too. Areas to pay close attention to are the neck, chest, and elbows.

Avoid using a body moisturizer on the face – it’ll be too rough and harsh.

Step 6: Eating Healthy and Sleeping Well

It’s easy to say but hard to do. It can’t be ignored that a balanced and nutritious diet benefits your whole body from the inside out. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will do wonders for the skin.

And a good night’s rest leaves skin with an unmistakable youthful glow – you’ve probably discovered that before on your own.

Step 7: Implement a Skin Care Regimen

A skincare routine is the best way to look and feel young. As skin matures, though, different products and regimens may need to be tweaked to gain maximum benefits.
When starting a new skin care system, all is well the first few weeks, and then sometimes the interest begins to fade for many of us after that. Please don’t stray and stick with the regimen.

Working alongside your skincare professional will keep you on track so you can reap the full rewards to more beautiful skin.

3 Things You Do not Know About Moisturizers

Posted for Moisturizers On December 12, 2008

Hi,

We all know that moisturizers form an integral part of skin care regimens. They keep the skin hydrated which makes it smooth and supple. However, like everything else, there are many facts and beliefs associated with their use. While some are just myths some can be shocking facts. Here are 5 things you probably didn’t know about moisturizers:

One Size Doesn’t Fit All – Moisturizers can be inappropriate too

Moisturizing are an essential element of skin care regimens. However, all moisturizers are not good for you. If you have oily skin, you shouldn’t use a heavy greasy moisturizing cream. Likewise, a lightweight gel will hardly do anything for people with dry skin.

Moist Dryness – Moisturizers can dry your skin
It sure sounds like a paradox, but, if you treat your body to extended showers and baths in a bid to keep it hydrated, you may actually cause it to become drier. This is because the skin’s intracellular matrix breaks down and the intrinsic moisture evaporates. Even when you use moisturizers excessively, the same situation arises.

Moisturizing Agents – Not moisturizing enough
Many moisturizers boast of containing natural moisturizing agents like aloe vera, shea butter, milk cream and so on. However, the concentration of these substances may be so low that they should hardly be labled a moisturizer .
