Exfoliating Scrubs Are They Good For Your Skin?

Posted for Skin Care On February 26, 2010

Exfoliation is a key process in your skin care regimen. This is what helps helps to scrape off the layer of dead skin cells that accumulate on the surface and helps new skin cells to appear from underneath. However, too much of exfoliation can be damaging as you may harm the healthy skin cells and damage the skin even more.

Another way, you can end up damaging your skin during exfoliation is by using the wrong kind of product.

One of the most common misconceptions women have is that if a scrub contains harsh particles that rub against the skin, it is more effective in removing the dead cells and impurities. This is not true though! Harsh particles in scrubs can only damage your skin and nothing less.

Scrubs do polish your skin surface, but more often than not the particles they contain are too large and actually tear at your skin pores. And if you have acne prone skin, scrubs can do more harm than good. They serve to spread the acne causing bacteria over the skin and exacerbate problems. Avoid using scrubs that contain apricot seeds

Instead look for scrubs that contain fine scrubbing particles and potent ingredients like:

Hydroxy Acids
They can penetrate deep inside your skin surface and improve your complexion from the inside-out.

Salicylic Acid
It is especially good for women with oily skin. It penetrates through oil and clears debris from within the skin pores.

Lactic Acid
It is great for aging skin or hyperpigmentation. It not only increases the skin cell turnover but also moisturizes the skin. The skin becomes more radiant and softer.

Product Suggestions:
